of procrastination, Ark Obscure is finally ready... |

joined to fulfill bass and guitar requirements. Dave have
written prolifically over their year of existence, and draw
widespread influences ranging from Weezer to Joy Division.
The name Dave does not come from a band member, but from a
supermarket story which everyone, but them, finds
lame. |

Two bumpkins from the

music that doesn't suck. Sometimes it's loud and
complicated, other times it is simple and pretty. Dusk
enjoy happiness, fancy beers that they can't really afford,
and writing band biographies.

Shamelessly simple
yet so damn intriguing. The same cannot be said for the
song writing abilities of the majority of 18 year-olds.
After traveling the world playing in bars for cheap drinks,
Dylan has gained a maturity in songwriting and performing
that belies his age. 2009 sees the release of his debut EP
Over the Ocean and the launch of his new life as a solo
artist. His sound has been described as a mix of Ben Harper
and John Mayer with a dash of Bob Dylan.

2003 / 2004, with Shane Troode on guitar and vocals, Jason
Troode on drums and Loren Osenbaugh on bass and vocals. A
variety of influences from across the Punk / Rock genre
(e.g. GoodNight City, The Ataris, KissChasy etc, etc.)

combined with catchy lyrics makes for a truly awesome
performance. Totally check it out.

Jack Action
|
|
 |
|
Antony Spagnolo:
Vocals
Chris McVey: Guitar
Ross Pickersgill: Bass
Richard Stagg: Drums
|
Jack Action is rock
and roll at its purest, and most exciting. Loud, catchy,
energetic, driving, and most of all fun, Jack Action is a
band trying to fill the hole in the Australian music scene
made by peers who care more about their trends and
relevance than the actual quality of songs. Songwriting is
stripped back to its purest form: the raw, 80s
rock-influenced guitar work of Chris McVey; the driving and
destructive drumming of Richard Stagg; the solid and
punk-esque bass lines of Ross Pickersgill and all iced off
by the simple, catchy, yet incredibly insightful lyricism
of dynamic frontman Anthony Spagnolo. The band formed
around four years ago with the simple intention of
performing as a Grinspoon tribute band, but soon discovered
that in creating original material, their unusually diverse
musical tastes created something quite different. Jack
Action is a band consistently delivering what punters want
and need: a song you can dance to, a lyric that will stick
in your head, a live show to enthral and captivate you, and
an attitude to warn your children about.

The Kirbens
|
|
 |
|
Kirsty Hulka: Vocals
/ Keys
Gareth Calvert: Drums
Ben Mauri: Vocals / Guitar
Ben Caddy: Bass
David Willis: Trumpet / Trombone
|
It has to be said
that The Kirbens, named after the first two members, come
from very different musical backgrounds. This is apparent
in their song lyrics and performance style. The
collaborations between vocalists: Music Education student
Kirsty Hulka and Hilton guitarist Ben Mauri have a bluesy
vibe that made them a favourite at open mic nights. This
popularity extended when Chiropractor Gareth Calvert joined
the band and added his talent with the drums. As Kirsty
says, "When we met we just wanted to play and see what
happened rather than trying particular styles, as I like
blues, Ben likes rock and Gareth... well, he's a case of
wait and see what comes out." In recent times Ben Caddy has
been adding his talent with the Bass guitar during
performances, and Dave Willis has made a couple of
memorable gigs with his divine trumpeting. After scoring
countless gigs around Perth and between overseas travels
the band has been working on their playlist and hopes 2009
will be a year of consolidation.

Priority One is a
punk / rock / alternative band from the suburbs of Perth,
Western Australia. We're one of hundreds (probably
thousands) of punk / rock bands from the most isolated city
on the earth, one of Australia's most musically fertile
hotspots. Formed in 2003 as a high school pop punk band,
we've gone through a couple of lineup changes and our sound
has become noticeably heavier and more intricate.
Musically, our horizons have broadened but we've always
tried to keep the melody of the pop punk in the songs.
While trying to rock out really hard. As the saying goes,
"Give a man a fish and you will feed him for the day. But
give a band some guitars and drums and they will... try to
rock out really hard." It's a modern one.

The
Short
|
|
|
Tim Rose: Guitar / Vocals / Synth
Scott Thomsett: Bass / Synth / Backup Vocals
Jack Thomsett: Drums / Backup
Vocals
|
| The three members of
The Short began playing music together in their early teens
for the purpose of pure enjoyment. Back then, there was no
band. Just three mates playing with terribly old equipment
chucked into their parents shed. Now, some 6 years on, a
spark of musical motivation has come upon The Short. It has
now become time to play their not so short music on the
stage for first time as a group. Expect a unique sound of
fast, melodic pop stemming from a wide range of cross-genre
influences and a strong musical chemistry arising from
countless years of mindless jamming. |

The Silent World is
an instrumental quintet from the fair city of Mandurah. Our
interests include sound, mathematics, confrontation,
dress-ups and beer. Having recently recorded a live demo at
Studio Sleepwalkers Dread, we now intend to direct our
attention to live performances and to further developing
and refining our sound.

Brian Mitra: Bass
|
| With a smattering of
young white hipsters lining the walls of the Norfolk
Basement, psych-rock trio began
filling the room with smooth overdriven bluesy noodling.
Around ten minutes later, having settled into a fine groove
and taking the early punters on a willing ride, it seemed
that if their guitar-worshipping frontman ever actually
opened his mouth it’d be a letdown. Luckily his
vocals, when they came, were a reverb-drenched asset that
completed the picture of a band whose style is fully
formed. It’s a fully formed 1960s counterculture
knock-off (think populist Hendrix), but one that could give
Tame Impala and the rest of Perth’s psychedelic
revivalists a run for their bread. A few others might have
the edge on songcraft right now, but Sugarpuss have a
better live act. Their bluesy, less experimental slant has
wider appeal, and their frontman’s pantomime prancing
and lustful guitar-lovemaking give these guys a visual edge
and flair that a lot of bands lack. Sugarpuss’
capable groove drivers have landed on their feet; most
rhythm sections are stuck indulging frontmen with half the
verve. The crowd dug it and the band looked pleased with
themselves post-set, so we can assume it was a win. -

Thickets of
Alchemy
|
|
 |
|
Andrew Sutton:
Vocals
Max Haederle: Guitar
Tom Gregory: Guitar
Murray Walsh: Bass
Tom Sullivan: Guitar
|
| Thickets of Alchemy
started off when Andrew Sutton and Tom Gregory ended up in
the same Year 11 Physics class. The two struggled to find a
band name, constantly trying to find one through physics
educational videos. Then one 'fortunate' day they stumbled
upon the term 'the thickets of alchemy'. It was agreed that
this was to be the name... but more affectionately known as
TOA. The two jammed with many different people until
finally Tom Sullivan was chosen as guitarist and singer.
Soon Murray joined on bass and TOA came up with around 10
songs. They recorded 'Child EP' which consisted of five
songs in their very early stages. Around this time TOA were
asked to perform in front of their school. They performed
Neon Wine in front of 1000 bored and tired school boys at
assembly. As school came to an end the band took a bit of a
break. Recently Max Headerle has joined the band as singer
with Sully becoming a 2nd guitarist. |
Unarmed Children vs Bears

|
Ejaz: Vocals /
Guitar
Leigh: Drums / Vocals
Joe: Guitar / Keys
Sam: Bass / Guitar
|
| All bets are on the
bears, but who knows... unarmed children may be
surprisingly lethal. They've yet to find a direction in
sound and taste. They smell alright most of the time. They
feel that they should be soft enough to be on that Kleenex
Silk Tissue ad. And they look like they're unbelievably
good in bed, on the floor, in the car, against the wall, in
the refrigerator and bungee jumping off the Eiffel Tower.
Come check them out and see if they're worthy of your
support! |

catapulted into a bedroom success story. It was from these
humble origins that the Universal Bean was conceived. |

Longtime musical
compatriots Scott Aitken and Ziggy Atwell team up with
James Vinciullo and Scott Young to form The Valeriks.
They're trying to blend whatever elements it takes to make
good music, be it blues, dance, psychedelia all the way to
country hoedowns if necessary. Their intentions are to have
a great time making music and put on a damn good show
performing it.
